PCH Fire

[10 p.m.] One lane of traffic was reopened in each direction of Pacific Coast Highway around 9 p.m.

[7:15 p.m.] PCH remains shut down in both directions near the scene of the fire. Follow @LAFD on Twitter for updates on when traffic reopens. Pick up a copy of The Malibu Times tomorrow and continue checking back for updates. Email melissa@malibutimes.con with any tips as well.

[6:25 p.m.] Correction: PCH has yet to reopen and fire crews are still battling several hot spots along steep terrain from the PCH Fire.

[5:08 p.m.] The fire is out but both directions of PCH have been shut down as crews work to mop up the fire.

[5 p.m.] Visible knockdown of flames in the PCH Fire has been achieved, but crews are continuing to douse many smoldering spots along the hillside, especially among the eucalyptus trees.

[4:30 p.m.] Ground crews are coordinating with super scoopers on when to drop water due to the steep hillside on which the 2-acre fire is burning.

Those trying to get to Malibu from Santa Monica should avoid the 10 and Pacific Coast Highway by taking the 405 North to the 101 freeway and exit Malibu Canyon Road. Those trying to get out of Malibu are advised to take alternate road routes as well. Check sigalert.com for ongoing freeway traffic updates.

[3:53 p.m.] PCH is closed at northbound near Channel. Traffic is affected back until the California incline. Southbound lanes have been narrowed to one lane.

Super scoopers are making numerous drops on the fire and it appears crews are making significant progress to fight the flames.

[3:35 p.m.] Northbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway are shut down and southbound lanes are extremely slow. Crews are spraying homes nearby as the fire burns along the hillside of the northern side of PCH.

A brush fire has been reported in the Santa Monica area on Pacific Coast Highway near Chautauqua Boulevard. Some structures are threatened and major traffic delays are expected in the area.

The fire is on the northernside of the road directly below several homes. Eucalyptus spot fires have broken out and super scoopers are en route to the fire.

The PCH fire was reported shortly after 3 p.m. If you have photos from the scene please email them to melissa@malibutimes.com.
