Children gather on the floor and in seats at Bank of Books Malibu for the store’s final Saturday morning storytime in 2016.

Residents of western Malibu will recall Bank of Books, the bookstore once located in Point Dume Plaza, which was shuttered in 2016. Bank of Books’ remaining location, on Main Street in Downtown Ventura, will be handing out books to those who lost homes in the Woolsey Fire.

In a Facebook post published Sunday, Dec. 9, the bookstore—which has long struggled to keep its doors open in the face of a daunting retail market—offered up thousands of books to those who lost their private collections.

“Free books to those who [lost] their home in the fires. Over 12,000 books, pick up weekly through the end of 2019. Recovery takes time,” the post said. “Free books also available to teachers. Location at our Ventura location, Bank of Books, 748 E. Main, and Abednego Book Shoppe, 2682 E. Main.”Â
