Varsity Sharks move to 7-0

The Malibu High School varsity baseball team is off to its best start in school history after defeating visiting Channel Islands High School in two recent games, earning the team a 7-0 record. The first game went to the Sharks 7-1, behind the pitching of senior Matt Gruskin, who moved to 2-0 on the year and pitched a complete game on 78 pitches, striking out six batters and only giving up five hits. Senior Mark Stevenson hit his first home run of the year, giving the Sharks a 2-1 lead. Junior Frank Thomas and senior Hunter Johnson each had two hits and two RBIs, while Jordan Simon added two hits as well for the Sharks who moved to 6-0.

In game two, the Sharks offense exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, which led the team to a 9-3 win. Jordan Simon, Hunter Johnson and Frank Thomas kept up their torrid pace offensively and senior Evan Anthony, junior Riley Mcmillin and sophomore Chase Lambert each added two hits.

JV baseball wins fourth straight

The Sharks JV baseball team beat the Channel Islands Raiders 11-3 last week. The Raiders were restricted thanks to the pitching of sophomore Sam Yang. Yang hurled seven strikeouts, allowing only two hits in five innings. Sophomore Chris Falk hit a triple, freshman Chris Armstrong had 3 hits and an RBI, and freshman Andre Simoneau was on base four out of five at-bats, with three hits and two RBIs.
