On Thursday evening Feb. 17, Duke’s of Malibu graciously hosted a charity event for the benefit of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. On behalf of Sea Shepherd, I want to thank Duke’s and its wonderful staff for their kindness and for the donation of its beautiful facilities for this special evening.

The event focused on the plight of the world’s sea mammals, ocean fish and Sea Shepherd’s devotion to help save them. The evening brought out some of the very best citizens of Malibu and the Los Angeles area, including representatives from Heal the Bay, Santa Monica BayKeeper, Environment Now, Santa Barbara Channel Keeper, the Malibu City Council, as well as a number of celebrities.

Special thanks also to Rebecca Dymtryk, executive director of the California Wildlife Center, whose tireless efforts and coordination made the event a success. Also to Debbie and Steve Dahlberg of the Paradise Beach Cafe for their kindness to allow the Sea Shepherd Ocean Warrior ship to moor and unload at Paradise Cove.

Our oceans and marine life are facing destruction by man at an alarming rate. The event at Duke’s of Malibu shows that people do care and can make a difference.
