Elizabeth Smart

On Wednesday, Feb. 17, the Malibu Library Speaker Series will feature Elizabeth Smart’s story of overcoming all odds as the victim of one of the most publicized child abduction cases of the modern era. The event is free and open to the public, and will begin at 7 p.m. at Malibu City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road.

At 14 years old, Smart was abducted at knifepoint from her own bedroom in Salt Lake City, Utah in the middle of the night. She was held captive by her two kidnappers for nine months, where she endured daily abuse, fear and loneliness.

Smart will speak about never giving up hope during a time of struggle, not allowing your past to dictate your future and the importance of the recovery process.

The Malibu Library Speaker Series is a program of the County of Los Angeles Public Library, Malibu Branch and the City of Malibu that features talks by experts on a wide range of subjects, including education, arts, literature, science, sports and more.
