Lydia Simon, I am sure you are a very nice lady. However, your accusation based on a Dec. 1 comment in The Malibu Times that Deputy Sheriff Jim Castro is insensitive to Malibu’s homeless, is wrong and off target. You are picking on Malibu’s most popular and well-liked sheriff’s deputy. I am grateful to know Deputy Castro for several years. He is a well-trained officer, a proud family man who would not mistreat anyone. He is dedicated to serving Malibu. He has made a lot of personal friends in Malibu from his hard work. I am one of those. Mr. Castro has been a sheriff’s deputy most of his life and has a trained understanding of the homeless. Your rush to judge him on this subject is unfounded.
Our churches are well aware of the homeless and assist in helping. Actor Martin Sheen has declared Malibu a sanctuary for the homeless. A few years ago, homeless guru Ted Hayes led a parade of homeless from Los Angeles to Malibu for help. After 40 years of being the homeless spokesperson and leader, Mr. Ted Hayes has recently given up and stated that his time was wasted. You, however, have lost your balance when you attempted to discredit Jim Castro.
