Just want to say that to anyone that dismisses the issues with Zan Marquis, Point Pizza, and D’amore’s is dismissing a huge injustice being perpetrated right under their noses. Do you welcome unethical business practices in Malibu? Or is it just not your problem? What if this happened to your business?
Hye Song complied with all of Zan’s steep demands and was led to believe that she was in an open negotiation to sign the new lease. Then the door is slammed on her business with two months to get out, and D’Amore’s gets the spoils of her 24 years in business with no further negotiation regarding time and/or compensation for Hye Song. How is this acceptable?
I have heard arguments like, “You can’t sell a business that has no lease” and “It’s his property. Zan can rent to whomever he wants.” Well, guess what, Zan has taken Hye Song’s clientele and passed it on to someone who has done nothing to earn it. If I were D’amore’s, I would question the ethics of the new landlord and be pretty upset that he put my company in a position to be boycotted. You should want to open a new location getting off on the right foot.
This deal is an unethical rip off. I know it is not likely that you will break this deal, but it is not too late. Don’t give us something to boycott. Give us a clean, ethical business market that we are proud to patronize and do business in. Please give Point Pizza a fair shake, whether it’s a one-year lease extension or a five-year one. To lead them to believe that all they have to do is comply with your standards and pay more rent, then to sign a lease with someone else at the last minute is misleading and just plain wrong. Please listen to the community and do what you can to make it right.
