Our Lady of Malibu School (OLM) Mechanized Robotics Team members worked together to place sixth overall at the VEX Robotics 2016 California State Robotics Team Competition in Pasadena. An exclusive group of 21 teams from across the state — many from larger schools — were chosen to compete.
The competition consisted of a Robot Skills Challenge that relied on driver control, a Programming Skills Challenge without driver inputs and a two-robot Teamwork Challenge. OLM students made up one of the competition’s youngest teams, consisting of fifth- and sixth-grade students, and were the only group to compete as a co-ed team.
OLM’s five-member team began working on their robotics in September.
“I was very proud of the effort our OLM team put into this competition,” robotics teacher Glen Sunyich said in a statement sent out by the school.
VEX Robotics is the largest and fastest-growing middle and high school robotics program globally, with over 12,000 teams from 33 countries competing in over 1,000 competitions worldwide.
