Last week my son’s high school soccer coach was killed in a car accident. I knew him from brief conversations on the sidelines before and after matches. Frank would also preside over the season-ending award banquets. And, though this was the extent of our relationship, I feel compelled to honor him. Our children from pre-school on leave us in the morning and return somewhat smarter and tired from their endeavors in the afternoon. As parents, we entrust their well-being and guidance to adults that we actually know very little of. Other than family, teachers have the most influence on who our children become and in turn, what our world will become. Frank Page was a good man who worked in relative anonymity and for little monetary reward to encourage and teach all his teams to have pride and work hard to reach their full potential as student-athletes. I will always remember his kind and eloquent words at those banquets when he would praise each and every player on his team as if they were his family. Our family is richer for knowing him and will miss him dearly.
