Malibu and other Los Angeles coastal towns are under a strong wind advisory Monday as gusts of up to 40 MPH continue tearing through the area. With waves up to 11 feet, a high surf advisory has also been issued.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a wind warning over the weekend that was set to last until Sunday evening, but calls for caution were renewed early Monday as  NWS implemented a new warning to last through Tuesday at 6 a.m.
The advisory also warns drives to stay on high alert while on the road.
“Winds this strong can down power lines and tree limbs,” a statement said. “Dangerous cross winds will create hazardous driving conditions.”Â
The NWS predicated western winds between 20 and 30 MPH with possible gusts of 40 MPH.
Surf’s up
As a result of heavy winds, a surf advisory from the NWS also discourages beachgoers from swimming and surfing in Malibu and other coastal city beaches.
Waves ranging from 7 to 9 feet and getting up to 11 feet will make for hazardous swimming conditions until Tuesday at 11 a.m., according to the NWS
“Storm force and gale force winds across the coastal waters will produce a large wind-driven swell from today through Tuesday morning,” a statement said.
