A Malibu Park woman woke up to a naked intruder in her bedroom Sunday morning, Oct. 15, and her screams caused the man to run off, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies said.
The apparent burglary attempt was in the 6400 block of Surfside Way, just east of Trancas, said Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Royal of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
At least eight sheriff’s deputies and a helicopter searched the area, and the suspect was found a short time later, clothed, near Pacific Coast Highway at Morning View Drive.
Although the man had been naked and reportedly standing close to the sleeping woman, deputies had not determined that a sex crime was his intent, Royal said.
He was not carrying a weapon.
The suspect had been spotted in the Zuma Beach area earlier and did not have a local residence, Royal said.
It was the second case of a burglary resulting in a helicopter search and large number of deputies in two weeks in Western Malibu. On Oct. 3, two men were found burglarizing a home about a mile to the west of this instance, on Sea Level Drive East.
In that case, one man escaped into the predawn darkness and is still being sought, while his accomplice was arrested.
Royal said the two cases were coincidental and not thought to be related.
