Ken LaZebnik, director for Library Advancement and Public Affairs at Pepperdine University’s Payson Library, is stepping down from his post at the end of January. The news was first reported by the Pepperdine Graphic campus newspaper.

A playwright and screenwriter by trade, LaZebnik has been with Pepperdine for three years but recently opted for a higher ed job elsewhere as the founding director of Stephen’s College Mastery of Fine Arts in Television and Screenwriting.

Based in Columbia, Missouri, Stephen’s College is a women’s college LaZebnik is plenty familiar with. For two years he served as the dean of the School of Performing Arts. His father even taught creative writing at the college. He told the Graphic he wants to make the program grow and see more women write for television and film.

His time at Pepperdine saw many great improvements to the program. Along with other officials at Payson, LaZebnik was able to have numerous speakers, exhibits and panels presented at the library.

This spring, LaZebnik plans on releasing a book called, “Hollywood Digs: An Archaelogy of Shadows.” On April 1 he plans to return for a visit to Pepperdine and discuss the book.
