The National Park Service conducted a Post-Fire Volunteer Day at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa in Newbury Park, where about 100 local volunteers helped rebuild trails damaged by the Springs Fire, and all trails in the park are now reopened.
The Springs Fire burned more than 24,000 acres in Ventura County in May. It sparked in Camarillo and quickly reached Newbury Park, the Cal State Channel Islands area and the Pacific Ocean at Point Mugu.
California State Parks and NPS officials and volunteers have been working to help the natural areas affected by the fire recover. Parks officials say members of the public can help areas recover by respecting park closures, staying on park trails and volunteering for habitat restoration or trail improvement.
