Can You Dig It?
Parking at Cross Creek Plaza will be in short supply for the next few months. The parking lot is being torn up to make way for a new on-site wastewater treatment facility. Plaza owner Steve Soboroff said when finished, the multimillion dollar facility will be state-of-the-art, describing it as the next generation of water quality. “We are pulling out all the stops and Malibu will be a cleaner place because of it,” Soboroff said.
The parking lot, which serves businesses such as the Malibu Pharmacy, Wells Fargo Bank, Colony Cleaners, Banana Republic and the Malibu Cinemas Hollywood Theater, will have limited parking while the project is underway.
Soboroff said he has had few complaints from merchants or their customers. “People may have to park a little further away, but everyone knows there is a worthy end, which is a cleaner beach and cleaner water.”
The plaza owner said he voluntarily came up with the idea for the new treatment facility after seeing “An Inconvenient Truth,” which warns about the effects of pollution and global warning. “I saw Al Gore’s film,” Soboroff said. “This is my little way of helping.” He expects the project to be completed by the end of June. “
