Closures for Route 27 pavement replacement
The California Department of Transportation will close one lane in alternating directions on Topanga Canyon Boulevard (Route 27) daily until Friday, between Topanga School Road and Cezanne Avenue.
Closure hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flaggers will be in place to manage traffic, but motorists should expect delays.
The closures are in relation to a $5.5 million, 11-mile construction project on Route 27 from Route 1 to Mulholland Drive. The project will replace existing pavement with rubberized asphalt concrete, including re-striping, installing new metal beam guardrails and widening roadway shoulders at a limited number of locations. Completion is expected by this summer.
Ask a deputy sheriff
Citizens may meet with a local deputy sheriff every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Malibu Kitchen & Gourmet Country Market to discuss local issues. Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Brownell will be available to answer questions about issues regarding law enforcement and crime prevention. In the case of Brownell’s absence, Deputy Dave Lewey will be on hand. Those who attend are eligible for a 10 percent discount on their meal. More information can be obtained by calling 310.456.6652.
Kanan Road on-ramp closing
The California Department of Transportation will close the Kanan Road on-ramp to the southbound Ventura Freeway, U.S. 101, for approximately six weeks beginning March 7. Detour signs will be posted.
The closure is in relation to a $23.5 million project to improve the Kanan Road interchange. The locally funded work involves new freeway ramps, realigning Canwood Street and widening southbound Kanan Road to include a right-turn lane to improve access to the new southbound U.S. 101 on-ramp. Completion is expected by the summer.
