Mother of the Year Rosie Award winner Ellen Shane with daughters Emily (middle left) who was killed in 2010, and Gerri (far left) now 23, and Leigh (far right), now 20. After her daughter’s death, Shane turned tragedy into activism and started a foundation to help students in need. The Emily Shane Foundation and its SEA Program use mentoring programs to help struggling students who might not have the means to pay for educational support.
