Bar personal attacks

We are so fortunate to live in a country that not only allows for diversity, it encourages it! Yet somehow here in Malibu, it seems that a recent difference of opinion has become a springboard for personal hatred. While it has always been my position as a member of the clergy that my only public involvement in politics should be to encourage everyone to participate in the process, I cannot stand by and watch the destruction of good people’s names under the guise of “politics as usual.”

As a friend of Ozzie Silna, I want the community to know that I am personally aware of numerous private and public acts of goodness and kindness extended by the Silnas, reflecting their generosity and selflessness and their sincere commitment to humanity and the common good. If you disagree with Ozzie’s politics, then go ahead and advocate the most effective case to the best of your ability. America provides us all with a broad forum for healthy debate. But, please don’t cross the line and stoop to personally attacking a man whose integrity is his hallmark.

In our Malibu community we are blessed, in that “where the ocean meets the sky” is not just a song, it is our reality. Let’s embrace each other’s differences with acceptance, and let Malibu continue to be known as heaven’s place on earth.
