Break out the Cracker Jack and sunflower seeds, it’s time for Pepperdine Waves baseball.

Hosting a three-game series this weekend against St. Johns to open the 2014 season, the Waves hope to return to the WCC tournament this year after falling short in 2013.

Coming into the new season, Pepperdine is ranked second in the preaseason coaches poll, and Head Coach Steve Rodriguez has high hopes for the team.

“It remains to be seen what the identity of this team is, but I really think we have a great group of veteran guys and have brought in some good young players to go with them. This is one of the more experienced teams I have had and if they do the right things, and play the way they are supposed to, they can be very successful,” Rodriguez said.

Senior Corey Miller (RHP) returns for his senior year after posting a team-best 2.71 ERA, while his teammates Austin Davidson (INF), Kolten Yamaguchi (C) and Aaron Brown (LHP) received All-WCC preseason nods.

The Waves open the season this Friday at 2 p.m. and play Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. as well.
