A group of Venice residents opposed to plans for a 154-bed homeless shelter in the beachside neighborhood are gearing up for an expensive legal fight. 

The Venice Stakeholders Association has raised $200,000 to pay for lawsuits challenging plans for the shelter.

Residents are gearing up to fight the shelter … proposed for a former bus lot owned by Metro.

L A Mayor Eric Garcetti has a regional plan .. called A Bridge Home … to set up temporary housing for homeless people on the westside.

Malibu does not have a homeless shelter … but contributes towards the operation of one in Santa Monica.

In three weeks … a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge is set to decide whether to issue a preliminary injunction that would halt the Venice project.
