‘Bu book drive

For their school community service project, Malibu High School students Douglas and Gregory Bogie recently spearheaded a book drive that brought in more than 3,500 gently used elementary school books. The books were then donated to the library of Wilmington Park Elementary School.

Along with Doug and Greg Bogie, MHS students Rachael Kraft and Samantha Scadron delivered the books to Wilmington Park Elementary and they spent Sept. 26 sorting the books and painting a mural for the library.

This book drive was held in conjunction with Access Books , a nonprofit that brings books to needy inner-city school and community libraries (accessbooks.net). Currently, there is no funding for school libraries at the state level. Those who wish to donate gently used books may drop them off at 3727 Malibu Country Dr. A tax deductible receipt is available for books donated. More information may be obtained online at www.accessbooks.net.

The Malibu Times is the first newspaper in Malibu, serving the community since 1946.
