The Pepperdine men’s tennis team took home a 7-0 win against its Wells Fargo PCH Cup rivals Loyola Marymount last Saturday at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

The Waves clinched doubles with wins by the one and three pairs, picked up solid two-set victories and the clinch by freshman and Houston native Dane Esses on six, which secured the overall win.

Senior Stefan Menichella from Santa Barbara, and sophomore Jack Van Slyke from Toronto, opened the day in the No. 1 doubles position with a 6-2 victory over the opponent. Hailing from England, senior Tom Hill and his partner junior Pedro Iamachkine of Peru, followed by clinching the doubles point with a 6-4 win from the number three position — helping the Waves to dominate in doubles overall.

The sweep continued with a three-set victory by senior and Brazil native Guilherme Hadlich, as he bested his opponent with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 in the No. 1 position.

Sophomore Gabriel Sidney from Brazil and Van Slyke also held their own in singles, closing their matches with 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively.

Pepperdine will compete against Tulane on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 for the ITA Kick-Off in Berkley.
