Prose in praise of council

I’ve never written a letter to the local papers, but the attacks on members of our City Council have to be answered. My family has lived in Malibu for years. My mom was a teacher and principal in the local schools. This is the best City Council Malibu has ever had. Let’s not forget what has been accomplished under their tenure. The City Council successfully negotiated with the state to let us own Bluffs Park; through a settlement that under the new ruling would not have been permitted, finally made Zumirez safe by aligning the street and installing a traffic light; bought land in Trancas where a new park will be built; acquired land in Las Flores and received grant money to restore Las Flores Creek and build a park.

The City Council negotiated with Pepperdine to donate two acres of land so that we can finally build a treatment facility that will clean up the pollution in Civic Center and negotiated with the Malibu Bay Company to be a willing seller on the Chili Cook-Off for $25 million, which was just appraised at $34.5 million. The council has also raised the $25 million to buy the Chili Cook-Off and turn it into a park.

This council received the support of environmental groups, state, local and community groups. Their accomplishments prove they are not pro-development. They are pro-environment, pro- parks, pro- kids and pro- community.

In the interest of disclosure, I knew Harry Barovsky, who served this community well and I know his wife, Sharon. Sharon Barovsky is so straight you don’t need a plumb line to know she is around. The thought that she would knowingly break a law is laughable to any one knows her.
