EPA extends deadline on LNG Clean Air permit

The Environmental Protection Agency has extended the deadline to Aug. 3 for people to comment on the proposed air quality permit for BHP Billiton’s liquefied natural gas project. The reason for the extension, according to the EPA, is because there has not been enough outreach to the Spanish-speaking community on the proposed project.

BHP Biliton wants to install an LNG terminal approximately 14 miles off the Malibu coast. In addition to needing federal and state approval for the project, it must receive air quality and water discharge permits from the EPA.

Group forming to help activist remain in Topanga

A grassroots group called “Bringing Allen Home” has formed to find a method to allow Arson Watch head Allen Emerson move back to Topanga.

Earlier this month, Emerson was forced to move to Northern California because his landlord sold his home, and Emerson could not find another affordable place to live.

The group, which is mostly communicating through discussions on the Web site, www.topangaonline.com, is exploring how Emerson could find an affordable place to live in the town he has called home for the past 37 years. Those wishing to help should post a message on the site and ask to be contacted.
