The Cultural Arts Commission will host a free lecture event, “Republic of Austria vs. Altman” on Tues., April 29.
The lecture will cover how a lawyer, E. Randol Schoenberg, and his client, Maria Altman, recovered family heirlooms that were looted by the Nazis. The famous case involved returning paintings stolen from Altman’s family, and in January 2006, the United States Supreme Court decided that the paintings, valued at more than $325 million, should be returned to the family.
The event will take place at Malibu City Hall Council Chambers, 23825 Stuart Ranch Rd. at 7 p.m. For more information and to RSVP, call 310.456.2489 ext. 239.
