Baretta / TMT

A large part of local history is extinguished with the demolition of the Topanga Ranch Market, a Malibu constant since the 1950s. State Parks purchased the land from LAACO, LTD (parent company of the Los Angeles Athletic Club) for visitor-serving facilities. Ray Craig, who owns the Topanga Ranch Motel next door, named the Topanga Ranch Market when he owned it for 10 years beginning in 1984. He said the building was a compilation of businesses, which included the Rainbow Caf, until the market eventually took over the entire structure. It was destroyed on Monday as locals looked on.
