Good morning … I’m Hans Laetz reporting.

——

Record breaking heat hit the Santa Monica Mountains yesterday.

The National Weather Service does not keep specific records for Malibu … but in Woodland Hills …temperatures reached 89 degrees yesterday … and that was a record.

Scientists say we are having a strong La Niña … with colder-than-average sea surface temperatures in the tropical east Pacific Ocean.

There is also warming in the western tropical Pacific …and the loss of Arctic sea ice … amplifying the cyclical effect.

Long range … it looks like the high pressure system baking us might break down … in 10 days.

——

Malibu may soon ban plastic forks spoons and knives at grocery stores … restaurants and takeout venues.

The Planning Commission meets tonight.

On the agenda … the beloved Malibu Country Kitchen hamburger stand.

It’s trying to get its first zoning permits … after 27 years of cityhood and 60 plus years of operation it’s time to get its papers in order.

City staff says the Malibu Country Kitchen has been operating at La Costa beach since the 1950s without incident.

the restaurant is not seeking anything new … or any exemptions from parking or other rules.

That permission looks as easy … as a bacon avocado breakfast burrito … with onions please.…
