On the afternoon of December 12, 2006, I became a victim of assault and battery, attacked without provocation in the common area of Vista Pacifica Development in Malibu. I would like to personally thank Captain Tom Martin, Commanding Officer, Lost Hills Station, Sheriff Lee Baca, and all responding deputies for their professionalism and compassion, and the dispatcher who handled my 911 call until responding deputies arrived on scene.
At the time of the incident, I was not in a position to notice or remember individual deputy names. I want to acknowledge and thank the on scene sergeant who provided moral support, solid advice, and a friendly smile.
I particularly want to express my heartfelt thanks to Deputy Wayne Watts. On the day after I was attacked, I distributed a short flyer to all neighbors with an apology and explanation of law enforcement activity on our property. As a result of the communication, a witness came forward. On December 13, Deputy Watts was dispatched to my residence where, again, my witness and I were treated with total respect, non-judgmental attention, and understanding.
The residents of Malibu are very lucky to be protected by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department under the leadership and command of Sheriff Lee Baca and Captain Tom Martin. Happy holidays to Sheriff Baca, Captain Martin, and to all deputies and their families.
