Students at Our Lady of Malibu School (OLM) recently received a visit from Deputy Jake Merrifield of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department (LASD).

OLM middle school students got to work hands-on with Merrifield as they conducted a mock crime scene investigation on the disappearance of Mr. Bones — the life-size skeleton that serves as their class mascot.

The week-long investigation taught students to use math, science and writing skills to narrow down a list of mock suspects from the OLM faculty and administration.

Deputy Jake Merrifield represents Malibu and its surrounding areas in LASD’s Success Through Awareness and Resistance (STAR) Program, which works to provide youth with tools to make smart life choices.
