David Sagona gives a presentation to the Malibu Rotary Club about his work with the Malibu Youth Commission.

The Malibu Rotary Club hosted a special talk by David Sagona — a member of the City of Malibu Youth Commission and student at Our Lady of Malibu School (OLM). He spoke to Rotarians about the work of the Harry Barovsky Memorial Youth Commission, which was established in Malibu in 1999. Since its inception, the club has grown from seven members to as many as 25.

This year, there are 23 members who represent seventh to 12 grade students from four schools — OLM, Malibu High School, Crossroads School and Harvard- Westlake. In 2013, the commission organized a teen drive-in movie night, teen haunted house and volunteered at a variety of community events. This year, the commission is planning a haunted house and movie night, a teen film festival and a battle of the bands.

At 12 years old, Sagona is also the youngest member of the commission this year.
