Anne Hoffman’s Feb. 19 letter to the editor fulfilled its function. The next week, it made everyone tell the truth that Malibu CAN is not a grassroots organization but a front for Ozzie Silna. All of the political people in Malibu on both sides of the aisle know this to be a fact. Now everyone in Malibu knows that when you say Malibu CAN, it means one person with a lot of money. It is not an authentic organization but Ozzie hiding behind Malibu Can or Action Embroidery. Remember the old line, “He who pays the piper calls the tune.” It’s obvious some of his followers are abandoning Ozzie because they can’t stand the tune.
Now let’s get real about the problem we face in our immediate future. The only reason that Bill Winokur and Jay Liebig are running is because Ozzie recruited them. He tried to get other people to run but they did not want a collar and leash around their neck for the next four years. Liebig and Winokur are incredibly unqualified to be City Council people. Ozzie’s third choice, Walt Keller, I may not agree with, but at least he’s qualified. If you don’t believe me, watch Channel 15 and listen to their answers about the general issues in Malibu and especially about their answers on the LCP and the Coastal Commission.
Everyone knows that in a town with a $100 contribution limit, these two strangers to our political system could never raise enough money to run an effective campaign. Follow the money to see who is holding the leash. Remember, if you vote for Liebig or Winokur, you are really voting for Ozzie, because he can’t run himself since he doesn’t live in the city.
