Updated: Small brushfire out at Malibu Canyon and Mulholland Highway

8:12 p.m. update — California Highway Patrol officers are alternating opening the northbound and southbound lanes of traffic while fire department officials clean up the fire. Crews from Southern California Edison are doing repair work in southbound lane of Las Virgines Canyon Road near the Malibu Temple, about a half-mile south of Mulholland Highway, according to an official at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. Initial, unconfirmed reports have indicated the brush fire may have been caused by a downed power line. The fire burned two acres before it was contained. 


7 p.m. update — The fire has been knocked down. The northbound lane of Malibu Canyon Road will remain closed at Civic Center Way until further notification, according to a spokesperson at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. No injuries have been reported.


Fire department authorities are responding to a small brushfire near the intersection of Malibu Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway. The fire was reported at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday evening, according to Sgt. Del Rio of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. Del Rio said the fire may have been caused by a downed power line, but that has not yet been confirmed.
