Malibu Farm at the Malibu Pier

After nearly two years without any food services on the Malibu Pier, Eater LA reports that a pop-up cafe serving locally grown food will open at the end of the pier as soon as Friday.

Malibu resident Helene Henderson, who has a small farm at her residence, said the Malibu Farm would be open as a “pop-up” for at least six months. Henderson has no professional chef or restaurant experience, according to Eater, but has published a cookbook and played host to a slew of popular dinner parties. That popularity sparked the inspiration for the Malibu Farm, where she plans on serving breakfast, lunch and possibly early dinners.

The menu should go “along the lines of quinoa oatmeal with coconut milk and maple syrup; kale Caesar salad; and Brussels sprouts lavash pizza,” according to Eater, but Henderson is still finalizing the details.

If the pop-up proves successful after six months, Henderson may consider extending her tenancy at the Malibu Pier, according to Eater.

Earlier this year, pier concessionaire Alexander Leff told The Malibu Times three new businesses would be up and running on the pier by the end of this summer. Once the Malibu Farm opens, the pier will still have two vacancies at the entrance to the pier.

Since the Beachcomber Cafe shuttered at the end of 2011, the souvenir shop Malibu Beach Supply Co. has been the pier’s only business. A Ruby’s shake shack at the end of the pier closed in the middle of 2011.
