Holly Maine, who represented the Zuma Beach division of the Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguard Program, became a national champion in two events at the United States Lifesaving National Championships. The event took place in Virginia Beach, Va. on Aug. 6. Maine won gold in the Iron Guard Event, which is a swim, run and paddle race, and the Surf Swim Race. She also finished in fourth place in the paddleboard race and third place in the swim relay.Â
Maine was selected as one of six women who will represent the Lifesaving Association on Sept. 18-21 at the Lifesaving World Championships in Montpellier, France on the Youth National Team.Â
