By Wednesday evening, power had been restored to most impacted customers. At 10 p.m., the Edison website showed 14 customers still without power.
Update, 3:45 p.m.: Trancas Canyon Road has been reopened after Edison crews cleared the road of downed power lines. Power remains out for about 72 customers in the northern Trancas neighborhood.
Update, 2 p.m.: City Manager Jim Thorsen said he has ordered the city’s Public Works Department to try and lift the downed power lines in order to open up the road again.
Normally, the city does not touch hot/live power wires, but Thorsen the hot, dry fire conditions made him want to take the action.
“In this case I don’t want to have anything happen during high winds,” Thorsen said.
Fire personnel has apparently left the scene and the road remains blocked. The city may use a backhoe to lift the downed poles.
Residents in the upper Trancas neighborhood say they have no power and are unable to leave their homes as crews continue to deal with downed power lines on Trancas Canyon Road.
Malibu Times writer Jimy Tallal said those who live north of Trancas Canyon Park are trapped at home. A pole came down across Trancas Canyon Road just north of the park on Wednesday morning.
“Southern California Edison is now on scene and has cut power to the neighborhood. As a result, the fire department has now taken off… Unfortunately, we’re still trapped in the neighborhood and cannot leave the hill. There’s no power, and it’s likely that the road will not be reopened, according to Edison, for at least 6 to 8 hours,” Tallal said at 1 p.m.
But according to Edison’s website, about 72 customers are without power as a result of the lines being cut and power will not be restored until as late as 5 a.m. on Thursday. The outage began at 10:23 a.m. on Wednesday.
“We’re working with getting that opened up as soon as possible,” said Emergency Services Coordinator Brad Davis.
Calls to Edison representatives were not immediately returned.
