Council Member Rick Mullen, who was elected to Malibu City Council in November 2016, was just sworn in for his first term as Malibu’s mayor.
The council member, who earned the most votes in the 2016 municipal election, replaces outgoing mayor Skylar Peak, who had been serving his second term.
Mullen was sworn in by his wife, Jenny, alongside his son Marshall and daughter Tatiana.
Council Member Jefferson “Zuma Jay” Wagner was elected mayor pro tem in the reorganization, meaning if city council follows tradition he is likely to be the next mayor following Mullen’s nine-month term.
Wagner, who previously served as mayor of Malibu during his first term of office in 2010, was re-elected to council alongside Mullen last November. He was sworn in by Public Safety Commissioner Tracy Wright alongside his daughter, Ava.
