In 1965, developer John Drescher proposed to build a causeway from Santa Monica to Malibu, across Santa Monica Bay. The causeway would have been built on landfills and surrounded by islands that would have provided housing for 29,000 people, but coastal residents fought the project, and it was never built. The failed project is one of many detailed in a new exhibit at A+D Museum in West Los Angeles.
