Malibu-based athletes competed in several events on behalf of countries all over the world at this year’s Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Pepperdine alumna Kim Hill earned a bronze medal with Team USA’s women’s volleyball team. Malibu Rotary Club member Bianca Torrence had the chance to go to Rio and cheer on her son David as he competed for Team Peru in the men’s 1,500-meter race. Malibu local Jordan Wilimovsky narrowly missed medaling in the men’s 5,000-meter freestyle swim, coming in 4th, and took 5th in men’s 10k open water “marathon” swim. Natalie McGiffert, raised in Topanga, was a member of Team USA’s rhythmic gymnastics team — the first American team to ever earn a spot at the Olympic games.
