The newly-elected sheriff is coming under heavy fire from the cities that pay for police services from the LA County sheriffs department.

At issue: 16 sheriffs deputies countywide … who were fired for misconduct … but then rehired by the new sheriff … Alex Villanueva.

School district officials are going to try a second time to go to the public … to rename the school at Point Dume.

    You are listening to the latest news from Radio Malibu … F-M 99 point 1 K B U U.  ((( time  ))))

    ——

The Malibu city Council will decide how much to charge free municipal services tonight at its regular meeting.

But the final decision on reducing fees for people seeking to rebuild their houses after the Woolsey Fire will go before the city council at a later date.

The city council has a full agenda tonight … including making decisions on the civic center sewer … View corridors affected by the Woolsey Fire … a request to the county to add back up generators to all of the water pumps in Malibu.

Also … the city council will consider a measure to go on record against allowing camping in environmentally sensitive habitat areas. … in L -A County.

Joe Edmiston and the Mountains Resource Conservation Authority have plans to build a campground in Ramirez Canyon .. above Paradise Cove …

But they have been thwarted by a judge .. who ruled that the new L A County Local Coastal Plan does not allow that.

The Coastal Commission is telling L-A County to change the L-C-P … to allow camping.

Edmiston’s unilateral actions to install parks and campgrounds in Malibu … without local planning or adequate fire protections …. are infuriating many Malibu residents.

    ——

We’re remiss in not covering last Friday’s State of the City addresses.

Now … Long Beach State is becoming the latest school of sharks to ply the local waters.

Sharks has been chosen by the Long Beach student body to replace the ‘49ers as the schools mascot.

Poor old Prospector Pete is too anglo … and too old fashioned … for the Long beach campus.

He and the 49er’s are being retired … now it’s the Long beach Sharks.

    Welcome, Long beach Sharks.

    It’s a big ocean.
