The results are in, and there’s a new top dog in Malibu — Reggie T-Rex Norby!
Reggie T-Rex Norby, who usually just goes by Reggie, beat out over 90 submissions in this year’s second annual Malibu Times Best Dog of Summer Contest.
Reggie is a one-and-a-half year old English Bulldog who lives in Malibu Park with two older (human) brothers, 10-year-old Cooper and eight-year-old Hank, who entered him into the running — “this really was their own doing,” mom Lisa Norby said.
“He is very rowdy and wants to play at times, but otherwise he is sweet and lazy and he will sleep in his special bean bag for hours,” Cooper and Hank wrote in an email when they submitted Reggie to the contest. Sounds like he has the Malibu lifestyle down.
Reggie and his family won a slew of fabulous prizes, including a pet care package and pet massage from Jennifer Bowen of Zen Paws, a $100 grooming certificate from the Malibu Vet Clinic, pet-inspired jewelry by Karen Silton of Mosaic, and $50 gift cards from PCH Pets, Malibu Grooming and Eco Auto Spa.
According to Cooper and Hank, who attend Point Dume Marine Science School, Reggie will be rewarded for his win with lots of Greenies, his favorite treats, but no candy (despite how much fun he has lying in it, like in his picture).
On top of being a neighborhood favorite with lots of local friends, Reggie is also an adventurer and small-budget film star.
“We like to film a lot of movies about Reggie with our friends,” Cooper shared. The movies, which now total four, are called “Reggie’s Journey,” and show Reggie going on adventures with the Norby boys and their friends.
In “Reggie’s Journey,” the daring pup has scripted adventures written by Cooper and Hank, but Reggie has had some real-life adventures, too.
“Once we were at our friend’s pool … and he jumped into the pool on purpose, and I had to get him,” Hank shared. “He was standing on the bottom of the pool!”
“He’s a pure daredevil,” the boys said.
Honorable mentions
Earning second place in this year’s contest is four-year-old Miniature Schnauzer Koby. Koby is 18 pounds and enjoys exploring the outdoors.
After the votes were counted, two dogs tied for the third place spot: Miso and Rocky.
Miso is a seven-month-old Yorkie who was described in his email entry as “wild and crazy.” He loves to dig holes and has ventured on a boogie board at the beach.
Rocky is a four-year-old Border Collie who “lives for running after his ball on the beach in Malibu.” His family members shared that he lives to lie down in the wet sand by the water’s edge after hours of fun. Rocky, a multitalented pooch, is “an amazing soccer dog.” According to his family, he can dribble over, around and through any obstacle, bringing the ball back every time.
The Malibu Times would like to thank all of our contestants for entering. Please look for next year’s contest, which will begin in June of 2016.
