Monica Rita Forsman, a proofreader at The Malibu Times in the 1960s, died March 14. She was 88.
Known by her friends and family as Rita, Forsman was born in Galashiels, Scotland on Dec. 25, 1919. She came to the United States when she was four.
Forsman was educated in Detroit and lived in New York for five years before coming to Santa Barbara. In 1947, she married Stanley N. Forsman, who preceded her in death after 37 years of marriage. She lived in Malibu from 1955 until December 1992, when she moved to Thousand Oaks.
Forsman had many jobs during her lifetime, including as a proofreader at The Times. She retired from Jafra Cosmetics in 1986 after being an employee there for 15 years. Forsman is survived by her daughters, Francine, Mari and her husband Robert, Ronee and her husband Paul and grandchildren, Krystal and Brandon.
A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady of Malibu Catholic Church, located at 3265 Winter Canyon Road. Forsman’s remains will be scattered off the coast in a private ceremony on Sunday.
