This and that

Sunshine in Malibu again and it is great to escape from the rainy weather. Must be time for Little League and Malibu High School baseball. There is nothing like parents and grandparents chatting about base hits, legging out triples, hot corners, and Texas Leaguers to kick off spring. Martha Stewart has emerged. Did she see her shadow? Does that mean we are going to have 8 more weeks of Carrot Ginger Layer Cake with Orange Cream Cheese frosting? Enormous debate on TV about what outfit Martha would be wearing. I just assumed stripes, but I’m sort of old school. I observed the Malibu City Council meeting last week on TV. Costly new community election. New sales tax another Blank Check. Ask your hairdresser, ask the Pepperdine students, ask the local businessmen, ask Arnold York, darn—ask the Goobernator who was endorsed by The Malibu Times. So far the boys in the lab have failed to crack the case of where do former city of Malibu Council Persons go after they leave office. Easy! Just examination where their Malibu City lifetime pension checks are being mailed. Remarkable affairs of state happening in Lebanon. Poor old Osama bin Laden might not have figured he was going to be so helpful in bringing Democracy to the down trodden. First, Khadaffi gets rid of WMDs, then 90 percent of the Afghanis, including women, hold a free election for the first time; then Palestinians hold their first elections ever; the Royal Family allows the first municipal elections in Saudi Arabia; Chechnya repairs a fixed election; (or was that Uzbekistan; so many emerging democracies it’s hard to keep up) and of course the wonderful voting in Iraq by grandmothers. Ahhhhhh the Curmudgeon Kearsley’s tenet of unintended consequences at work. I hope this note finds you in good health and prepared for the most picturesque spring ever seen in Malibu.

And that is all I have to say. Well, not all.
