The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Services Detail and Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station have scheduled a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and driver’s license checkpoint in Malibu overnight beginning Friday, Jan. 26, from 8 p.m. – 3 a.m. The checkpoint is at an undisclosed location (“based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests”) within Malibu city limits.Â
In an emailed statement, the sheriff’s department emphasized that taking drugs, including marijuana or the prescription variety, could be impairing enough for a DUI citation. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol- or drug-related impaired driving as well as proper licensing.Â
Those caught driving impaired can expect jail time, fines, DUI classes, license suspensions and other fees that can exceed $10,000.
