Congratulations to the many of you who have already signed the petition to allow a referendum for a citizen vote on the Local Coastal Plan. It is hard to understand how any Malibu voter could be against signing a petition to allow citizens to have a voice in the Local Coastal Plan that will govern our lives.
To sign a petition requesting a referendum does not obligate your vote. Your vote is for you to decide when the referendum is held. The final vote will either validate or negate the commission plan. And the local voice will have been heard.
We no longer want a free wheeling commission and staff who live in ivory towers somewhere else dreaming up plans for a local they don’t know. The result is airy-fairy planning dreamed in ignorance of the local situation. This unrealism then becomes the blueprint of the way the commission demands our lives and neighboring communities’ lives should be lived.
We no longer want commissions, responsible to no one for their plans or actions, terrorizing this state and its residents by applying the laws of their plans before the plan is passed. Your voice of approval or negation, through the referendum vote, is the fundamental right of local freedom demanding to be heard.
And the state had better listen carefully.
