Keep link to books

Withdrawing from the Los Angeles County Public Library System will result in the loss of access to millions of books and other resources. Yes, our local branch needs a face-lift, some remodeling. It needs additional space for additional books; it needs additional space for computer stations, those stations preferably apart from the main traffic in the library. It needs additional resources. The City of Malibu could provide most of the needed improvements, but can it provide access to the millions of books that are now available?

True, the local branch doesn’t contain all the books that one would like to read, but one can obtain those books by making a request at the library. Even simpler is it to order books on-line. In either case, the books usually arrive within a week of the order. And don’t forget the availability of these books in several different languages, of books on tape, of newspapers and magazines, movies, music, all within the vast Los Angeles County Public Library System.

Will we have to drive into Santa Monica, Agoura, or elsewhere to borrow books, and while in the vicinity make purchases that might otherwise have been made in Malibu? I truly hope that the Malibu City Council thinks twice before cutting us off from such a rich source of knowledge and enjoyment that the county library now provides.
