M must not pass

The big issue facing Malibu currently is one that will affect each and every one of us, now and for years to come. The proposed Malibu Bay Company agreement, Measure M on the November 4 ballot, is one that we all have to address. In black and white, it’s really a “no-brainer” if the people of Malibu want to retain what’s left of the rural quality of Malibu. It’s a simple “No” vote on Measure M.

The flip side of the coin is to have more development, more bumper-to-bumper traffic on PCH, more hassle just to get around Malibu. Anyone who looks will recognize the fact that Malibu doesn’t need any more development.

If you thought that the additional traffic on PCH that resulted from the recent closing of Civic Center Way was a burden, multiply that many times over, and that is what you will get on a daily basis if Mr. Perenchio and the Malibu Bay Company have their way. Not to mention more pollution in Malibu that will be a by-product of the proposed development agreement. This is not a deal to benefit Malibu; this is a deal to benefit the wallets of Mr. Perenchio and company. This isn’t about them doing something good for Malibu; this is about them making more money at the expense of the people in Malibu. Plain and simple.

Let’s all show the Malibu Bay Company that we don’t want Malibu to turn into another over-commercialized, congested town on the coast. Let’s show them that those of us who live in Malibu care about the qualities that brought most of us here in the first place. Please don’t let this measure pass. If it does, there is no going back. Vote “No” on Measure M.
