Malibu High School dropped from No. 57 to No. 125 among California high schools—still within the top five percent—in a U.S. News & World Report ranking released on Tuesday, April 30.

The significant change is due to a change in the number of schools included overall in the ranking.

An online statement from the organization read, “The 2019 Best High Schools rankings are not comparable with Best High Schools rankings U.S. News has published in the past.”

A total of 2,494 high schools were included in the California ranking. Nationally, the school was ranked No. 817 out of more than 17,000 schools.

This year, Malibu High is joined by Santa Monica High School in the rankings. (MHS was the only school in the district to make the ranking in 2018.) Samohi is ranked at No. 134 among California schools, and No. 914 nationally.
