Hitting him where he lives

Does Anne Hoffman believe that it’s okay for the Perenchios’ MBC to spend a couple of hundred thousand dollars on an election designed to benefit their business interests and it’s not okay for Ozzie (Silna) to spend less that a quarter of that amount opposing what he believes is not in the community interest? Unfortunately, as has been her practice in many previous instances, Hoffman continues to misstate the facts, i.e. “Mr. Silna does not live in Malibu.” (Therefore, Malibu citizens would pay fees that would never be imposed on his family, his lawn, his pepper trees or his bank account.)

The facts are: Mr. Silna’s lawn, his pepper trees and his bank account are all in the City, and all regulations imposed by the California Coastal Commission upon the City of Malibu will affect him in the same way they affect Malibu residents. When the City separated from the county, the dividing line separated his front parcel and his only access, which is within the City, from his rear parcel upon which his home was being built. Both lots are in the coastal zone and fall within the jurisdiction of the Coastal Commission.

In fact, when Mr. Silna was building his home, the City mistakenly stopped his contractors from building for more than three months, claiming that his house was within the City. This stoppage cost him the neighborhood of $150,000. When he found out that his house was not within the city boundaries, he could have sued the fledgling Malibu (and definitely won). My husband was the real estate person who sold him the property and spoke to legal council that said the City was abusive and would be liable for damages. Mr. Silna did not sue and said, “The City needs the money more than I do.” So much for the malicious accusations made by Anne Hoffman.
