The City of Malibu Cultural Arts Commission will host a screening of “Woman in Gold” on June 12 at 7:30 p.m. The screening will take place at the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue, located at 24855 Pacific Coast Hwy.
The film tells the story of the late Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee living in Los Angeles who fought the government of Austria with help from her lawyer, Randol Schoenberg, for almost a decade to reclaim a painting of her aunt, “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.” The portrait had been taken from her relatives by Nazis in Vienna just before World War II.Â
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Schoenberg, who had visited Malibu in April 2014 to give a free lecture about this piece of history.
All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Public Art Fund. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Malibu Arts and Culture website.
