November is Diabetes Awareness Month and some people are diabetic and/or borderline diabetic and don’t even realize it.

It’s best that you check in with your family physician for some simple tests if you think you may have diabetes.

Meanwhile, follow these cool tips to stay at your peak:

Learn to meditate to help reduce stress and improve your blood sugar levels.

Step out of your comfort zone and exercise regularly, which helps keep your weight and blood sugar under control—just about everyone can do a brisk daily walk.

Eat right and follow your food plan. If you don’t have one, ask your doctor about seeing a dietitian who specializes in diabetes.

Before you go on vacation, get a checkup, pack extra meds and plan your doses around time zone changes.

Drop 10% of your body weight through regular diet and exercise by swapping saturated fats and refined sugars for healthy fats found in nuts and sweet whole fruit.

Schedule an eye exam once a year—diabetes complications can cause vision loss or blindness.

Check both of your feet daily for blisters, cuts, or sores because you may not feel foot pain.

Show some color by packing your plate with a palette of greens, yellows, and reds—like spinach, quash, and tomatoes.
