Seth Payares, of Malibu, CA, died in his sleep, Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Santa Monica, CA at the age of 23. He was born May 7, 1989, in Wilmington, CA. He attended Juan Cabrillo Elementary School, and then Malibu High School until 2006. Seth graduated from Paso Robles High School in 2007, where he was known for his talent in the arts. He was currently enrolled at Santa Monica College, starting his education to obtain a degree in nursing. Seth was an extremely talented and eclectic person. He loved music, graphic design, science, and computer technology. He was a great friend to all who came to know him as a compassionate, generous, loyal, and excellent listener. His sense of humor was his trademark, making everyone laugh with his quick wit and charm. He dreamed of traveling, making music, and earning advanced degrees in the health field. Anyone who met Seth was touched by his illuminating smile and his genuine interest for others. Seth is survived by his parents Dori Rota and stepfather Dr. James Rota, his father Joseph Payares; his brothers Chase and Brett Friedland, Shane Friedland and stepfather Richard Friedland. He also leaves his grandmother, Carmen Garcia of Carson, CA, fondly known to Seth as “Magaw.” He is also survived by his close friend Perry Schmittdiel of Longmont, CO, and fourteen aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.
Family and friends are invited for a viewing on Saturday, June 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy Funeral Home, 1925 Arizona Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90404.
The viewing will be followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at the Self Realization Fellowship (Windmill Chapel), 17190 Sunset Blvd. Pacific Palisades, CA 90272.
